Rust Converter

For metal that is too far gone to sand and too expensive to replace. Brush it straight onto the rust and it turns the rust itself into a stable coating you can paint.

Use it for

• Fire escapes and railings that see winter salt
• Gates, fences and security bars
• Structural steel, rebar in concrete, pipe
• Anything where sandblasting is not happening

How it works

Knock off the loose flakes and scale, wipe the surface, degrease it if it is greasy, then brush or roll on one even coat. The surface turns dark blue as the rust converts, about two hours at room temperature. That color change is how you know it worked.

Then prime and paint

Paint it as soon as the converter is dry, not next week. Until the topcoat is on, keep rain and hose water off it. If the rust was deeper than about 6 mils, expect a few spots the first coat missed and put on a second.

The spec sheet

Plant based, water based, odorless, no solvents. Penetrates rust 2 to 12 mils deep. Covers 87 to 130 square feet per pound, and deep rust eats the high end. Works between 41F and 95F, best around 60F. Tools wash out with water.
